Jamaica Receives Updated US Travel Advisory

The U.S. State Department has decreased its travel advisory for Jamaica from Level 3 to Level 2 for the second time in eight months.

As of January 17, Americans are advised to exercise increased caution in the Caribbean country due to crime, health and natural disaster risks.

Previously, travelers were advised to reconsider visiting the island nation due to damaged infrastructure and limited services in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Jamaica has rebounded from the October storm sensationally, however, reopening to tourism in a matter of weeks.

The country's minister of tourism, Edmund Bartlett, recently praised the island's resilience and reiterated that Jamaica is very much open for business this winter.

"I declared that 90 days after the hurricane, we would open our doors, and we did. And since then, we have welcomed half a million visitors to Jamaica," said Bartlett.
